Osme is the Greek word meaning odor. It is the stem word for many medical definitions relating to smell.
Smell disorders:
Normosmia: a normal sense of smell.
Anosmia: complete loss of the sense of smell.
Hyperosmia: increased sensitivity to odors.
Dysosmia: any defect or impairment in the sense of smell.
Hyposmia: diminished sense of smell, partial loss of the sense of smell.
Parosmia: a perversion or distortion of the sense of smell (sniffing one odor but ‘smelling’ another, often unpleasant odor).
Phantosmia: smelling an odor for which there is no stimulus, a ‘phantom smell’.
Presbyosmia: a decrease in the sense of smell associated with aging.
Taste disorders:
Hypogeusia: diminished sense of taste.
Ageusia: loss of the sense of taste.
Dysgeusia: distorted sense of taste.
